Sesami Unwrapped 2024

The year we rebuilt the booking experience, shipped the Admin Portal, launched analytics, rewrote the Shopify POS integration, and opened the platform up with apps and an API.

Sesami Unwrapped 2024

Sesami turned five in 2024, and it was the year the platform underneath the booking button got rebuilt. Here is what shipped.

Booking experiences

After years in the making we released our new booking experience, and we are proud of this one. It is an original Sesami design, inspired by the Stendig calendar, and it comes in two variations: a monthly and day view, and a multi-day view.

It loads fast and stays light, built on Lit web components. As a standalone component it works with native or headless frameworks, Hydrogen included. It is not another copy of a meeting scheduler.

We also launched the Experience Configurator, so you can adjust it to your own store rather than accepting ours.

The Sesami Admin Portal

We built our own admin channel to manage the platform properly. It is a progressive web app, mobile-first, and it genuinely works on a phone.

It comes with access control, which matters for teams where people should see different things, and it reads the same data as everything else so your operations stay consistent across channels. Service providers can have their own access to manage their own time and bookings.

Sesami Analytics

A customisable analytics service, so the business insight is in the same place as the bookings. The first component landed in the dashboard: booking and sales data compared in one view, your top services booked and sold, and a time range selector with presets.

Retail: the new Shopify POS integration

After years of feedback we shipped an all-new integration built on Shopify POS UI Extensions. It is fast, and it lets retail staff run service operations without fighting the till.

Booking without an order is baked into it, which is what makes check-in and checkout work properly and keeps data in sync across platforms. The checkout experience pre-selects the customer on POS, so you can personalise the visit with a tap instead of asking for an email address at the counter.

It looks and behaves like a native Shopify POS component, because it is one.

Apps: the Sesami apps platform and the Forms app

We spent the year making Sesami extensible. Apps connect to our API authentication and endpoints, and are served inside the Admin Portal. They can register extensions into different channels, including the booking experience and the portal itself.

The first one is the Forms app: build form fields into the booking experience and ask customers what you need to know before they arrive. A lot of the innovation went into how apps communicate, which you can read about on sesami.dev.

Platform: the new availability service

An entirely new service for the fast and genuinely complicated time calculations that booking requires. It is what makes flexible start times, multi-day bookings and multi-resource services possible.

Platform: the API

New GraphQL and REST APIs, so developers and partners can build customisations and integrations properly. This is the foundation everything since has been built on.
